Bike the Neal Smith Trail to the Des Moines Renaissance Faire!
Last Updated: 8/5/2020
Join our Facebook Event and let us know you are interested.
Some of our management team are recreational cyclists and want to make sure other riders know that the Neal Smith Trail / Oralabor Gateway Trail runs north of the event.
We will be reaching out to Des Moines-area bicycle shops and clubs. Ideally, we’d love to partner with a local group (or store) to sponsor a bicycle parking area. Please contact us if you want to join!
Free Bottle of Water
While supplies last, cyclists will received a free bottle of water with their paid admission. (But we expect we’ll see them over at our tavern operated by Mucky Duck Pub shortly afterwards…)
I-35/80 Trail Detour
Due to bridge construction, the path under I-35/80 is closed. Here is the official proposed detour provided by the Iowa DOT (thanks to Brian Meyer for this information). Alternate detours have been suggested by members of the Des Moines Area Bike Riders Facebook group. Ride safe!
NOTE: The bridge at the top of this map has been upgraded in recent years and now has a pedestrian lane. Our location is actually just east of this brdige, but NW 66th is not very pedestrian friendly. Continuing north on the trail, then back south on NW Toni Dr. seems like a safer route.
Trail Route (from South)
Take Neal Smith Trail to the Oralabor Gateway Trail heading east towards Ankeny. Exit the trail on NW Toni Dr (listed as a bike friendly road) and go south 1500 feet to NW Prairie Lane. Ride through this short loop to NW 66th Ave next to Puttmasters and into their parking lot.
Due to the Covid situation, the bike groups we contacted were not being active with events right now. We had hoped to get a group to provide bike parking services. This does not look like it will happen, so we will work on ways for you to secure you bike during your visit.
